What does it mean to be home for the holidays?

Is it the food, the people or your family?

For some it is one thing, for others it could be many. As for myself it is everything. It really doesn't have to be all at once it just has to be one thing.
When I was younger home for the holidays really was home. I had to be at my grandparents house having dinner with them. When I got older it was parents house as my mother took over all the cooking.

Now that I have my own family it is a little different. It is about the food and the memories that I can help my own children create.
As a kid and even as an adult I LOVE sweet potato casserole. I can remember as a child calling my aunt to make sure she made it. I am not sure what she did to it but for some reason I had to have her sweet potato casserole, non other would do.

Still to this day I love sweet potato casserole and it yummy goodness

4 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup milk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups cornflakes cereal, crushed
1/4 cup chopped pecans
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows

1. Preheat oven to 400°. Bake sweet potatoes at 400° for 1 hour or until tender. Let stand until cool to touch (about 20 minutes); peel and mash sweet potatoes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°.
2. Beat mashed sweet potatoes, granulated sugar, and next 5 ingredients at medium speed with an electric mixer until smooth. Spoon potato mixture into a greased 11- x 7-inch baking dish.
3. Combine cornflakes cereal and next 3 ingredients in a small bowl. Sprinkle over casserole in diagonal rows 2 inches apart.
4. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Remove from oven; let stand 10 minutes. Sprinkle marshmallows in alternate rows between cornflake mixture; bake 10 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

I hope you enjoy it.

That is something I often think about when writing. What memories are my characters creating. Memories are important to us. They help us grow, learn and achieve.

In my book Bounty for Love Tess and Alek learn what it means to create memories. They have to work at it. I loved that about Tess and Alek. There is a reason for them making memories, wanting memories of family traditions.

Be sure to get your copy of Bounty for Love so you too can learn why they must create memories.
