Excerpt

I stood in the hardware section looking at flashlights, when I suddenly felt someone staring at me. I tried to remain inconspicuous as I glanced to my left without turning my head. At the end of the aisle stood a slender, young man at least six feet tall, wearing a red and black plaid, flannel shirt with cut-off sleeves. Lean muscles flexed on his bicep as he grabbed something off the shelf. His bare arms revealed a tattoo on his right shoulder, but I wasn't close enough to read it.
He must've felt my gaze on him, because he looked over at me. The sun gently kissed his skin with a golden tan, and his full lips spread into a charming grin. He had a clean-shaven, square jaw and sharp cheekbones that would make any woman envious. His sandy blonde hair flowed like waves and curled softly on the ends, brushing his ears and collar. A few, untamed strands fell in his eyes, making his hair appear disheveled. There was no doubt in my mind he was handsome.
Immediately, a heat wave crashed beneath my skin...and I knew it wasn’t due to the summer weather. I blushed under his steady gaze and looked away in an attempt to ignore him. For some reason, I couldn't control myself. My gaze kept finding his. A smirk played on his lips—the color of a summer peach—and I wondered if they tasted as sweet.

My Review

The Howling Heart is fast paced paranormal romance. I LOVED how the reader became engaged with the story. Also it was a great romance. The story is about Paige Donovan who thinks she is living the life with the promotion only to find out she lost it all. The boyfriend she loved, only to find him cheating on her, and her father.

With things out of sorts she heads to the cabin left to her by her father. A place where memories are great. It is there that the story really took off for me. The town and the cabin is surrounded byt "strange" people. Her connection to Riley thrilled me. He is the guy every girl can think about.
I enjoyed reading their story and learning about them.
Recommended read for all paranormal fans.

Thanks for coming to my page. About me, hmm? What to say? I was born in California, lived in England for a time, then settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Today much of my time is spent in the Land of Make Believe, visiting my characters, encouraging them to tell me their stories. Now they won’t shut the frak up! If you write, you know what I mean. If you don’t, you probably think I’m insane. Guess what? You’re right!
At ten, I moved to England for a year and half, living with my brother and sister-in-law who were stationed at Upper Heyford Air Force Base. I went to an English school in Chipping Norton. Being the only American in an all British school was quite the experience. It was here I was introduced to the world of fantasy—Lord of the Rings to be exact—as well as Celtic mythology. This experience forever influenced my love of reading—from fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and contemporary romance. And in case you’re wondering, I adore Harry Potter. Seriously, who doesn’t? If you don’t, uh, keep it to yourself.
I’d like to tell you writing has been my lifelong pursuit, that I’ve written all my life. But honestly, almost four years ago, I stumbled upon it by accident. Now, I can’t imagine my life without it. I’ve always had an active imagination but it never translated to the page. During an extended stay at home due to medical issues, and bored out of my skull, I sat down at my computer, and started writing memories from days gone by. Those memories turned into a story, and I started to wonder if I had it in me to write an entire novel. Encouraged by a writer friend I opened my mind and let characters have free rein. Before I knew it, months had passed and I was well into my first novel. Long story short, three and a half years later—and three rewrites—my first novel, Colour Wielders was complete and accepted by Curiosity Quills Press. The first book in the Heirs of the Magykal Realm will be published late in 2012 or early 2013.
Besides writing my other passions are my husband, my dogs, and Football. My team is the Miami Dolphins—sadly, I don’t have high hopes for the 2012-2013 season. Don’t be surprised when at least one of my blog posts, on Raver’s Rants and Raves, includes an outpouring of grief over the Fin’s performance, but I will try to keep my public dissatisfaction to a minimum. At least I have the Manning brothers. Though Peyton in Denver Bronco colors is just, well, disturbing.
I hope you enjoy your visits here, and in particular, enjoy my Comic Reviews. I look forward to connecting with new people and making friends. Can’t wait for your comments.
Cheers!

My Review:

This was such a great story, filled with courage, love,  hope, and despair. All the makings of a great story.
The book had me crying at times, asking questions and holding onto the last page obsorbing every last deail to the end. I loved and hated Quinn.  I loved her for many reasons, reasons I think a reader needs  to read the book to find out. I hated her for the bratiness she presented. Granted understood it, still it was a turn off for me. As for Arik I loved him in this book. He grew up and that was wonderful to watch. Part of growing up is making those hard decisions. Many like the one he faced where it is a yes or no question. Either answer leaving you in a no win situtation.
Growing up with these types of stories I feel that Ms. Raver did a wonderful job putting the story together for a compelling read.  Great Job.
Put this on your TBR list readers.

Excerpt #2:  IMAGINE YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE

“You won’t find your friend here,” a man said as he emerged from one of the bedrooms.
In that instant, Ilauria couldn’t move.
To anyone else, the being before her would look to be an ordinary man but to one of the Psyne, there was no doubt it was anything but human. Despite its resemblance to a human male, it was neither male nor female. It wore a gray wool coat and slacks, plain like a uniform, with buttons down the front and a short, stand-up collar. Soft flames licked yellow and white along the edges of its silhouette, simmering to a gas light blue.
All moisture evaporated from the room and the temperature began to climb. A sheer wall of oppressive air hit Ilauria and her skin felt tight and dry. She braced herself against the onslaught of desiccating heat rolling off its body and as she drew in a shaky breath, she couldn’t believe that she stood in the presence of a nemesis she’d only heard described in legends.
“The Fury,” she whispered.
“So you’ve heard of me,” the Fury said, its face ablaze with amusement.
Her body trembled and her limbs went stiff, petrified with fear. She couldn’t tear her eyes away from the creature before her. It was like staring at death itself, like staring at her death: impending, certain, and inescapable.
The Fury lived to kill her kind and take their magic.
Her first reaction was to morph into her animal form, an instinct all Psyne carried from the days when their ancestors hid from the Fury on their home world.
But her body wouldn’t shape shift.
She tried again and then it dawned on her. The Fury had laid a trap, a dead zone, rendering her magic useless. She was powerless, as helpless as a human with all of her defenses neutralized and completely at its mercy.
The furious beating of her heart begged her to run.  The front door was too far away so she backed up to the balcony doors nearest her and grasped the handles with trembling hands, her startled gaze never leaving the Fury’s face.
“For some reason, all you Psyne react to me in the same manner.  I can’t imagine why.”
Ilauria narrowed her eyes at its flippant words.  Its smug face told her it had the upper hand and it reveled in that fact.  If this was to be her end, so be it but she wasn’t going to beg for her life.
