REVIEWS

Four and a half stars at Romance Junkies: From beginning to end, THE UNMASKING is a fascinating tale…I was intrigued at how the writing team is able to intertwine a love story with such horrifying circumstances in startling clarity. One of the many things I adored about this story is that the main characters are flawed. They both make judgment errors and their mistakes and assumptions lead to some emotionally trying scenes that had me eagerly reading to find out how they were going to solve their conflicts - or at several points if they even would be able to remain together. If you enjoy romantic suspense novels then I can definitely recommend THE UNMASKING. Chrissy D.

Five Stars at Amazon: One of the best stories ever written by Adriana Kraft…a truly great read. Could not put it down until I finished it. Amy B.

Five Stars at Goodreads: The suspense is so well done you don't know who the bad guy is until it's revealed in the book. The action is fast paced and kept my interest to the very end. Could not put the book down. Donna H.

Chapter One

Who will be the next victim?

Nancy Appleby scanned the co-eds in the small lecture hall. Each could be his next prey. Each looked much younger than she remembered being as a full-time student. Each woman hung on Professor Bayfield’s well crafted words.

Was it the topic, Celtic Myths and Rituals, or was it the aloofness of the tall, dark-haired lecturer with the strong protruding chin that mesmerized? He did command attention. Although his tone was mild, Bayfield played with his audience like a polished actor. Clearly he was in control. Though he gestured but rarely, he moved like an athlete, comfortable in his body.

Nancy jotted notes on a yellow pad pretending to be no different than anyone else in the room. She glanced up at Bayfield, whose eyes had settled on her; they were piercing and inquisitive. Then he shifted his gaze, but he’d noticed her, was thinking about her. Why? She’d done everything she could to blend in. He hadn’t seemed particularly troubled by her presence, just curious.

Nancy redirected her attention to the individuals sitting in front of her. She’d arrived early to claim an aisle seat in the back row. The raised auditorium layout provided an advantageous observation post. About sixty women and twenty men were in attendance, no doubt a decent turnout. Blackthorn College had a student body of less than two thousand.

Nancy scribbled more notes and then focused on the men in the room.

Was he in the lecture hall? Would he strike again, tonight? Or would the rapist stay in his hole, biding his time?

ADRIANA KRAFT ON THE WEB

It’s All About the Research

Authors of erotic romance often get teased about what kind of research they might delve into for the sake of their books – it’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it…**snicker, giggle, knowing wink.**

The research my husband and I engaged in for this spicy romantic suspense is a little different – some might say, it’s been our entire lives. We’ve both taught at universities (that’s where we met) and we know the academic life from the inside. The choices and struggles faced by our professorial hero, Anthropologist Matt Bayfield, are more familiar than we might like to admit.

Hubs is a sociologist with a specialty in criminology. I promise he’s drawn on this background immensely in creating our spunky female undercover cop, Nancy Appleby, in plotting the trajectory of the crimes and the mystery of solving it, and especially in understanding our truly creepy villain (who I won’t name, of course – that would spoil everything!).

We’ve both immersed ourselves in understand Celtic culture and history for years – long before we envisioned this novel. Hubs has Welsh roots, and mine are Scotch-Irish on one side, so we feel an ancestral pull to that era and its understanding of seasons and cycles. It was easy to hand that passion over to our ersatz professor. We won’t say more about how it’s woven into the plot, but we think readers will like it.

We had a close call researching the technology we’ve handed our resourceful cop – hubs found himself on a website requesting security clearance for more information. Backed right out of that one! But found what we needed to know without tripping any more alarms.

The North Woods, where we’ve set the novel? A place we’ve lived and loved, and left, when the winters grew too much for us to handle. But while we lived there, we threw ourselves with a passion into the cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and crisp winter outings Nancy enjoys so much. Writing those scenes was like watching snippets from our own life on the screen.

The Unmasking was originally released in 2008 under a different pen name; rights reverted to us when the contract ran out, and we’ve decided to re-issue it as “ourselves.” We’ve thoroughly re-edited the book and incorporated helpful feedback from our beta readers

Our tag line is Erotic Romance for Two, Three, or More. Most of our published work has focused on the “three or more” side of the equation. We’re happy to offer a book focused on the “two” element, and we think readers will find the sex is no less sizzling. And no, we’re not going to share any research we might have indulged in to write those scenes.

“My Writing Process” Blog Tour

Q. What am I working on?

I am currently working on 3 different novels. One is a science fiction book, the other two are contemporary romance. I also have the start of a paranormal romance. What can I say I love variety

Q. How does my work differ from others of its genre?

My books resemble much of the contemporay romance world. I do however try to keep the story line going through the series.

I want my readers to feel what these characters feel. Make them believable, as well as give them believable circumstances to find love, loss and the unfortante event which causes someone to need rescuing.

Q. Why do I write what I do?

I love writing. Who doesn't love a little romance in their life. I grew up reading science fiction and though it had nothing to do with romance, I grew to love the aspect that a spark could bring on such momentous feelings. Especially as I grew older and hit the hormonal stage. I want to give a little bit of that back.

Q. How does your writing process work?

My writing process is quiet unique, or at least to me it is. :)

I write what is in my head, piece it together, go back to the beginning and write some more. I don't stop for spelling or grammar, I just write. Every now and then a story hits me and I actually write down key words and phrases, even emotions in what I think each chapter should bring. Would you believe that I have 3, yes 3 notebooks filled with completed stories written just like this.

Q. Who will we meet next week?

Y. Correa- Author, CEO/Founder of @AllAuthorsMag & All Authors P & P, Mother, Daughter, Author Advocate, Avid Reader and Chocoholic. http://allauthorsblog.blogspot.com/

Kerry Taylor- taken from her blog: I am a mother, entrepreneur, IT Engineer, poet and foremost a woman. I say this because, at times, we as mothers forget we are individuals too. We hide under motherhood to excuse and justify our movements in life.
I have 3 children aged from 17 to 1 years old, they keep my on my toes 24-7. They are the biggest aspect of my life. They keep me thinking of new adventures all the time, and sometimes they stop me taking some of them too. I am known to be rather wild at times. A special quote from my 17-year-old the other day – Whilst picking on his younger brother, I pointed out that they have all come from the same stomach. So, he should not act like he is the superior one. His reply – That is the problem Mother, we came from somewhere far worse than your stomach!!
Recently, self-published my first book of poetry called Stones of My Heart: One Woman’s Life Journey. It details all the different stages in my life from childhood, to teenager, to motherhood, to a wife and finally to a single mother. What makes it different from most? Everything, I am an average woman, fighting to survive in the world, and I have had too many kickbacks and keep trying to survive. That counts for a lot in my eyes and others.
The next book of poetry, I have written is called Life’s Pebbles: Her Journey Continues. It will be followed by Gravel of Moments: She Speaks Her Truths. Currently, writing my biography, my first novel which will enable my readers’ to piece all the puzzles together.
Also, I have started writing romantic comedies, the first one to be released is Fly, Pray, Love. It is a laugh out loud Cross Atlantic comedy about How Beyonce met Brad Pitt! Followed by Blind Dating, which is a heart-warming comedy about a woman who commences chat dating to discover the person she decides to meet is someone she already knows. I have just completedLove or Money, about two roommates, who set on a quest to get engaged, Kelly claims Money Can’t Buy me Love, whereas Heather begs to differ in this laugh out loud romantic comedy. She Said: He Said, a book which is a prime example of why Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus!  http://kerryt2013.wordpress.com/

Excerpt:

Her need for sleep was conquered by the potency of her thoughts, and the ceaseless fear that she always lugged around like a plague. She heard some movement in the bushes. A stirring. That was odd. What would be lingering about at this time of night? “Ah,” she thought aloud with a small curl of the lips. “Tis a hare or something of the sort. I'm sure.” She stepped out of her seat and walked over to the edge of the balcony to peer over expecting to see the lovely little animal that would most likely pop out from behind the bushes at any second. She leaned on the ledge and placed her elbows over it, and then instinctively placed her chin upon her hands. She looked out at the greenery, which was lit only by the moonlight and stars, and watched with hopefulness. “Finally, something to take my mind off the troubles!” she thought with a wishful sigh. She was startled by the sound of his voice. “I was unable to sleep well, Ma’ Lady.” Her breath ceased for the briefest of moments. “MarcoAntonio! What are you doing here? If they catch you….” She couldn't bear to finish her thought. “Forgive me, Ma’ Lady,” he apologized quietly, and then quickly and humbly lowered his eye sight for a moment. “I had to see you again.” He raised his eyes to her once more. “Our time together earlier tonight was not enough to fulfill my need of seeing you. At second thought, no time available to man is enough to fulfill my need to see you.” He halfway smiled, gently. “Please, my love. You have to go. I don't know what I would do if they catch you here. Please? For me?” she pleaded. “Ma’ Lady, I will leave. Very soon. I just had to see you once more, if only for a moment.” He turned his head behind him for a split second. “I've tied Altivo back there, so that they would not hear him. I'm being safe,” he promised. “Now I plead with you, just allow me a few more moments of your time before I leave.” With worry obvious in her voice, yet the everlasting love that perforated her soul apparent as well, she responded, “Very well.” For the first time ever, MarcoAntonio gathered the courage necessary and approached the building closer than he'd ever done before. “Ma’ Lady Amaryllis, you should know by now that your soul existence is what gives my own existence purpose. I love you more than words can express. You do know this, do you not?” “Yes brave sir, I am well aware. Just as you should be aware that I feel the same way,” she said attempting to sound calm, yet her body language spoke volumes as to how fearful she was by the fact that he'd approached the building so closely. “Then Ma’ Lady, I only ask one thing....” he said as he walked closer. “Marco, please? Stay back!” “Just one thing….” he repeated. This time making her fear the most predominant emotion displayed, she blurted out, “Yes. Yes! Very well then. Ask!”

About the Author:

Y. Correa is a proud Hispanic-American mother of four, daughter, teacher, mentor, author and advocate, among other things. Early on in life Y knew how to multitask and juggle a million and one things. To this day she still doesn't know how she does it. About 3 years ago, Y embarked on the adventure of her life: she opted to write a book. Though a late bloomer, the task came to her naturally, as if it were something that was hidden in her all of that time. Today, Y has published several short stories and a hand full of full length novels and still has many works in progress. Apart from writing, Y realized that there was a need for a strong support group that would unite all authors, of all walks of life. Quickly she realized that life in this industry was difficult and that there was lots of segregation within the literary ranks. Just as quickly she decided that she'd make it her mission to change that. Thus the Self-Published/Indie Authors Support Group was born. Through time Y realized that the fight she'd embarked on was rather one sided: traditionally published authors needed advocating and support too. With that, the All Authors Support Group was born. Like bees to honey, authors from all walks of life came. From the All Authors Support Group, the All Authors Blog Blitz was born, and like an avalanche, in a series of unexpected events the All Authors Magazine was born. Today however, Y would like to present to you the launch of her newest full length novel “MarcoAntonio and Amaryllis”

Excerpt:

Pilar was tired, so Deuce wasn't going to press her to make love, though he wanted to claim his territory. Especially in the face of this new development. He truly didn't like the idea of her traveling all over and being away from him for so much of the time. He'd miss her in a big way. Pilar had become such a focal point in his life. She was his mate in every way he'd ever imagined a woman could be.

Snuggling up next to him, she put a hand on his bare chest, sliding it down his abdomen after a moment. The tips of her fingers teased his cock through his pajama bottoms and she practically purred against his shoulder. He put his hand over hers. "I thought you were tired, sugar."

"Not that tired."

He pulled her hand down to his rapidly hardening dick and gave it a squeeze. Pilar didn't need any further encouragement. She kneaded his flesh for a moment, then pushed her hand down into his pajama bottoms and grasped him firmly. She rose up on her side and began to kiss his chest, pausing to suck on one of his hard nipples for a moment.

"Mmm."

"You like that, spank-man?"

"You know I do, sugar."

"Then I'll do it again."

"I reckon that would suit me fine."

"I love it when you talk Texan to me."

"Well, ma'am, it is purely my pleasure," he said, putting on his deepest drawl.

Her lips traveled down his torso and Deuce drank up the attention like fine wine.

Author Bio:

I began writing for publication at age seven, when a poem I wrote was printed in a children's magazine. A long time went by before I got interested in further publications. I guess I was resting on my laurels. Now, I'm the author of more than twenty novels and novellas.

Although I'm an American, I live in Canada with my husband and a whole lot of houseplants.

Things to note: my books are all romances, in that they are about people falling in love and living happily ever after. They also have quite a bit of erotic/adult content, so be ready for the spicy stuff.

Enjoy!

Book Spotlight: Playing Doctor by Jan Meredith

Jan Meredith
PLAYING DOCTOR/Entangled Flaunt

Blurb:
When a fellow RN jokingly predicts that Beth Roberts will meet a tall, ripped and totally lick-o-licious stranger who will fulfill her deepest desires, it’s supposed to be from across a crowded room, not giving CPR to a wedding guest. Given her tragic love life, Beth has no desire to become involved again, but who could have predicted the ponytailed doctor with the mischievous smile would break through her defenses?
Dr. Gabriel North blamed himself for his wife’s death. Now, after two years of battling guilt and meaningless hookups, he’s ready to move on. When he sees the sexy brunette at his friend’s wedding, his attraction is swift and strong, and he wastes no time in pressing his advantage. One night with the woman who makes him feel alive again isn’t enough, but gaining her trust is going to take more than medical school has prepared him for.

Excerpt:

“Talk to me. Tell me what you’re thinking.”
Gabe pulled into the hotel parking lot and cut the engine. Hooking his wrist over the steering wheel, he turned and looked at her. I’m not ready to end this, and I think…hope we’re on the same track. If not, then I apologize, but I think you should invite me up so we see where this goes.”
She was surprised and so very relieved to hear his words echo her own thoughts. There was no second-guessing what he was suggesting, no point in pretending otherwise. The anticipation sent a shimmer of excitement through her. Adrenaline raced through her veins at what she was about to say, what she was about to do.
“Yes, I’d like that,” she murmured, her voice a little shaky. When Gabe heaved out a sigh of relief and reached for her, she held up her hand. “But I have a stipulation.”
The expression on his face would have been comical if the situation wasn’t so emotionally charged, and Beth almost smiled. She’d bet her new stethoscope he was expecting her to say, no sex. Well, he couldn’t be further off the track. She wanted everything he could give her…and more.
“I have no room for romance or a relationship in my life, nor do I want it. I want no complications, and you can expect the same from me. This is for one night only,” she said.
Gabe nodded. The relief on his face told her they were of the same mindset where emotional involvement was concerned. Good.
“You should know that I’m free of any sexually transmitted disease. I was tested after my husband died.” She continued when he nodded again. “What we’re considering is sex, pure and simple, between two consenting adults, nothing more. Are we agreed?”
“No.”
For a moment, Beth wasn’t sure she’d heard him correctly. “No?”
“No. I have a couple of stipulations of my own.”
Well, she certainly hadn’t expected this. Beth shifted in her seat. Wary and more than a little apprehensive, she said, “Please, go on.”
“First off, you should also know that I’ve never had an STD in my life. Secondly, I agree with the no romance, no relationship, no complications part and that we’re considering consensual—emphasis on the sensual—sex,” he corrected.
Gabe leaned across the seat, drove his fingers in her hair, took her mouth and her breath along with it. It was quick and thorough, a little rough with urgency. “Now, my stipulations.” He looked at her, his eyes grave. “You set the comfort level in everything we do. I want you to know you’re safe with me. I’ve been hard for you since the moment I first saw you. I want you easy and slow, hard and fast.” His gaze dropped to her mouth, the rough pad of his thumb skimmed over her bottom lip, and what he said next took her breath away. “I want to feel you come around my cock and against my mouth, and more than anything, I want to feel you swallow me deeper than I’ve ever been swallowed before. I want you on your back, straddling my hips, and on your hands and knees. It can be sweet and innocent or I can flat out fuck you until you can’t walk if that’s the way you want it, but there will be nothing pure or simple about it. Are we agreed?”
Heat rippled over her sex. Her nipples tightened until even the soft satin of her bra felt abrasive. She couldn’t form a response, could only nod as she stared into his heavy-lidded, lust-filled eyes. His words were dark and erotic, his voice deep and rich with promise, and she wanted it all. She’d never been so turned on in her life.
Are we agreed?” he repeated.
“Yes, we’re agreed.”

Author Q&A

What attracted you to writing in the first place?
I came to writing from my love of reading. While growing up, I lost myself in books in order to escape an unhappy childhood.

What genre are you most comfortable writing?
Romance. I wrote for Harlequin for 20 years, writing sweet romance (as Donna Clayton) and women's fiction (under my own name). I have self-published some of my books. The Merry-Go-Round was my first indie-published book. Reclaim My Heart is my very first Montlake publication. I am proud and excited to have been picked up by such a prestigious publisher.

How has your upbringing influenced your writing?
I think authors who face a lot of pain and anguish seem to write stories with great depth, with honesty and compassion. It could be that dealing with trauma brings out the best (or worst) in people. I believe that losing my mother at such a young age had a huge impact on me not just as a writer but as a human being. I became, I don't know, more maternal towards my family, my friends, heck, towards everyone I meet... more giving of myself, I guess you could say. My mother's death could have made me bitter and angry. I'm just so grateful that the exact opposite seems to describe me.

Where do you get your inspiration and ideas from?
My mind is always on the alert. The writer in me is inspired by everything I see, hear, read, and experience. I have been known to take a snippet of conversation overheard in an elevator and turn it into a book (Return of the Runaway Bride), or from a location (His Wife for a While), or from a person I met (Taking Love in Stride). So be careful! If you interact with me, you might end up in one of my novels.

What’s your favorite place in the entire world?
I have visited so many beautiful places. The South of France, the rolling mountains of Italy, the Mediterranean Sea, the cobbled streets of Brussels, the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona, beautiful Morro Bay, California, and I spend lots of time in Ocean City, Maryland. I obviously can't pick a favorite. Besides, there are so many places waiting to be seen!

What was your favorite part of this book to write? Which part was the hardest?
I really enjoyed writing the love scenes. In my sweet romances, all the 'spice' takes place behind closed doors. So this was very fun. And which part was hardest? The "kitchen love scene" (naughty pun intended!).

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
I wanted to be a teacher. My aunt attended college and earned her teaching degree. I always idolized her. I've dedicated Reclaim My Heart to my Aunt Dot.

So what’s next for you as an author? Any last words?
I'm thinking of writing a book that revolves around three friends in different stages of marriage, but I'm not sure yet. I've worked very hard on Reclaim My Heart and I'm going to take a few days off. Then I'll get back to work!

Why I Write Romance Novels
By Donna Fasano
I can’t tell you how many times over the course of my 20-plus year career as a published romance author I have been asked, “When are you going to write a real book? You know, a [insert genre of choice: mystery, historical, thriller, etc].” So I’d like to take this opportunity to tell readers why I write romance novels.
I suffered a lot of tragedy while I was growing up, the worst of which was the death of my mother just as I was entering my teens. I felt as though I went from 13 to 35 overnight, and when my friends were off having fun, I was cooking and cleaning and helping my little brother with his homework. Romance novels were an escape for me. The Wolf and the Dove, The Far Pavilions, Whitney My Love, Rebecca, The Thorne Birds… if the book featured one man and one woman falling in love, I read it! Romance novels offered me hope for a happy future filled with love (hokey, maybe, but I was a naïve teen). As a young wife and mother, I discovered Silhouette Romance Novels. These books were short and sweet and uplifting. Each and every story put a smile on my face, and the happily-ever-after endings always boosted my spirits. Are romance novels real? No. Does every real-life relationship end in HEA? Of course not. But if I wanted doom and gloom, I’d watch the evening news.

As an author, I can’t think of a better way to use my talent than to bring pure enjoyment to my readers. I tell people that I write cotton candy for the mind. Think about that. When you were a kid and you put a small cloud of that wispy confection on your tongue, what did you do? You smiled. And maybe you even laughed. That’s the reaction I’m going for with my short, upbeat stories. That’s why I write romance novels. So if you’re looking to get lost for a few hours in a fun, cheery story, I hope you’ll try one of my books.
