So my secret is out you say? That would depend witch secret you are referring to. That I am a clone? Everyone knows that by now. Or that I have a dark disease pulsating through my veins, one I am quite fond of? Big deal. It’s exciting, never to have to hold back, unpredictability is a drug. We all crave it.  So what possible secret could I hold that is worth keeping? Imagine me giving you a sly smirk right now because I have not the misfortune of compassion that will cause me to spill my secrets. Without them there is no hand to be dealt.

Will my secret keep him close? Perhaps. But here is my confession, I have something better than secrecy. I have absolution. With me, he is not bound, it will be out of choice. With me, he never has to hold back. And I would love him for the good and especially in the bad. When I gave my word that I’d stop my tricks – I lied. That’s the thing with obsession. I does not care. It only wants, and it is so fixated on want, that it becomes need, and it shall have all it wants and needs.  And while I have no time to ponder who I am, clone – what a stupid word, I am already on my way to loving him forever. That’s how I play it, because I just don’t care.  Everyone knows I am nothing like my pathetic prime. That with me, it’s all bad intentions and violent, narcissistic adoration. That is not who I am. I am but one thing - in absolution.

Kimi hissed as she lowered her body into the mountain of bubbles. She leaned back, closed her eyes and covered them with a damp cloth. Her body relaxed and she cut loose with a contented sigh and thanked God for deep baths, warm water and lots of bubbles.

Almost instantly the blond guy came into focus, clearer than he’d been earlier in the bar. For a few seconds she saw a relatively normal- looking face behind her closed lids. Okay, maybe not normal. An extremely handsome face, confident, powerful. She squirmed, her groin doing that odd clinching again. She had to fight not to touch herself.

But then his green eyes began to glow, small sparks shooting across them, out of them. His face thinned; his generous mouth pulled into a tight smile. The sparks began to build, finger-like tendrils reaching out for her. Her eyes started to pulse. Against her will, Kimi’s throbbed and tried to match the flickering light. She sucked in a breath and tried to turn away.

“Stop!” She sat up, the washcloth slipping from her eyes. “Christ, I can’t do this!” Her body jerked hard when she started to sob. “Why is this happening? What the hell’s wrong with me?”

“Nothing a little time won’t take care of.”

Kimi froze, afraid to take a breath, her thoughts as quiet as her apartment while she waited to see if he said anything else. She tipped her head, the silence deafening. After a few seconds, she started to relax, sure it had to be another hallucination. And that's when he started to talk—calmly, like initiating conversation with a naked stranger in her bathroom was an everyday occurrence.

“Neyvarre acted the fool tonight when he walked away from you, not at all usual for him, I assure you. But since he did, I’m afraid there is little you or I can do for the moment. To force his hand, I mean. I think it will be best for all concerned if you come with me now. We can work together to form a plan to try to change his mind.”

Kimi wasn’t paying attention to what he said. Her mind raced, trying to come up with a plan of escape. First she needed to build her courage, turn around and make sure he was alone. Part of her still hoped he might not be real at all.

“You might as well face me, Kimberly. I assure you, I’m very real, though I can well imagine you would prefer otherwise. I have no intention of leaving without you tonight, but if it makes it easier to face, I’m no more pleased about any of this than you are.”

He ended with a small chuckle, though there was nothing pleasant about the sound, nothing to ease Kimi’s terror. The tremors running through her body grew

stronger. If she wanted to try to escape this mess, she couldn’t just sit there. She needed to do something now, move before she was completely useless.

She took one deep breath and turned. Sure enough, it was the scary red-haired stranger, casually leaning against the doorframe of her bathroom. He had traded the jeans and western-cut shirt and hat for the tight black leather she’d imagined him in earlier. She huffed. “Figures.” But the leather wasn’t the thick, shiny material a biker would wear. His clothes looked soft, like some kind of rich suede.

The stranger laughed and Kimi turned away, her face growing warm.

Every muscle was visible beneath the skintight material, and there were plenty of them to see. When he crossed his arms, they rippled under his shirt. It did nothing to help reassure her that everything would be okay. She began to pant, close to hyperventilating as she forced her eyes to meet his.

The dark shades no longer covered his eyes, though she wished they did. It was easy enough to see from only a few feet away that they weren’t normal. They were yellow, more like an animal’s. He held her in place with those eerie yellow eyes. When he smiled, she screamed.

The high-pitched sound helped to break Kimi free of her paralysis. It must have surprised her unwanted guest as well because his freaky eyes widened as she flew over the side of the tub. She hit the floor with a grunt as her feet slid out from under her, reaching without thought for the fluffy green towel by the tub. Her gaze locked on the small bathroom window she’d cracked before she got undressed. Kimi knew it was her only hope of escape. She probably couldn’t get it open enough to crawl through, but she could scream. Wake people up. They lived on the upper floor of a fairly large apartment building. Somebody would hear and hopefully call the police.

Kimi slid again just as she reached the window and knocked her chin against the sill. She tasted blood, but ignored the pain as she slipped her fingers through the crack and lifted. A large hand closed over her mouth before she could draw in enough air to scream. Another hand clamped like a vice around her waist and jerked her back. The hand left her mouth only long enough to slam the window shut. Instead of returning to her mouth, he reached up to cover her eyes. It made her feel claustrophobic.

She began to kick, scratch or bite at any part of him she could reach. She arched her back and tried to throw her head against his chin or nose, but both her feet slipped out from under her. His feet must have slid in the water when she arched back because they both went down, hard enough to rattle Kimi’s teeth. He jerked her head against his rock-hard chest, his arm still wrapped around her waist; now that his legs were free, he reached around to hook them through hers. But Kimi wasn’t ready to admit defeat.

“Fucking bastard! Let me go!” He laughed, a deep rumbling sound, and all the fire inside Kimi evaporated. Her puny struggles were nothing but a joke to this man. She’d never had a chance.

“Be still,” he whispered against her ear. “You will only hurt yourself.” She tried once more to break his powerful hold, but they both knew the game was over. If he hadn’t been pressing his hand so tightly against her eyes, Kimi would have burst into tears.

“Please let me go,” she whispered. “Don’t hurt me.” She went limp in his arms, but he didn’t relax his hold. “What do you want? I don’t have anything!”

“I admire your strength, Kimberly, and I regret that you must be introduced to your new life in this way. Neyvarre should not have been capable of walking away from you tonight, but since he did, it has forced a change of plans on my part. Believe me, child, no matter how it may appear to you; I don’t enjoy this anymore than you do. Cooperate with me and we should be able to end this relatively fast. Do not and I’m afraid your life for the next couple of days will not be pleasant. Do I make myself clear?”

Days? She’d never survive days with this monster!

My Review

I was torn with this book. I am giving it 4 stars because I enjoyed the story. I loved the adventure the characters and their interactions with each other. I would have loved more about the humans instead of the aliens. I did get lost a few times between the aliens and the humans reading each other.

There were elements of the story I didn't expect such as the paranormal elements.

Even though I wasn't expecting the paranormal elements it didn't take away from the story.

This is the morning I break Nathan Lawford, Blaine Technologies’ notoriously uptight chief financial officer, the executive employees call the Iceman.
I hum the words to an extremely vulgar hip-hop song as I stride through the concrete-and-glass lobby, my phone in my right hand and the straps of my backpack slung over my shoulder.

Not even Jerome, the company’s powerful high-security guard, could dampen my enthusiasm today. He searched my black canvas bag for a record twelve minutes, wrinkling important papers and poking his clumsy fingers into delicate electronics. He leered and sneered at me, and I said nothing, tolerating the harassment.

Because today Nate will touch me.

I’ve spent months defrosting the Iceman, following rules I’ve crafted, rules he isn’t aware of. I can’t touch him unless he touches me. I can’t see him outside of our morning elevator rides unless he approaches me. I can e-mail him but not call him, check his agenda but not change it.

Even with these self-imposed restrictions, I’ll win, my victory growing more certain as our daily skirmishes escalate in intensity.

Every morning Nate takes the same elevator at the same time, his schedule as rigid and unbending as he is. Every morning I share the same elevator car. He looks at me. I look at him. We exchange a couple of verbal barbs, some increasingly steamy sexual innuendos, and then we part ways, going to our different floors, our different worlds.

I’m the green-haired rebel intern. Nate is an unemotional rule setter, a huge immovable wall I can’t stop pushing against, a challenge I can’t back away from. He drives me absolutely wild and I will have him. On my terms.

I glance at my phone’s screen. Sh** on a stick. I have three minutes to trek to the elevators. Clipping my phone to my skirt’s frayed waistband, I march faster, the heels of my shoes ringing against the gleaming white marble tile. Video screens hang from the walls, displaying happy images of the conforming masses. Dark-suited corporate clones linger around the paid-to-be-perky receptionist.

Loitering isn’t an option, as there’s no flexibility in the Iceman’s timetable. I turn the corner and my heels squeak on the floor. No one is waiting for the elevators, the area empty. I press the up button three times in rapid succession, pleased that I’ll have Nate’s complete attention during our five-minute elevator ride.

Privacy is essential for my plan to work, as I’m not the type of woman any career-minded executive would choose to acknowledge publicly. I glance at my reflection in the elevator’s shiny metallic doors and wince. Although I no longer wear my temporary tattoos or visible body jewelry, the green hair and the holes in my ears, nose, and bottom lip remain, declaring my rebel status to the world.

This is who I am, who I’ve always been. I break rules. I push people. I don’t fit in anywhere. I tell myself I’m okay with this. In my heart I know I’m not. But I can’t change, not even for the Iceman.

The bell rings, the doors to elevator number four open, and my heart pounds. Nate stands in the back right corner, staring down at his phone, appearing as unapproachably handsome as usual, his blond hair short and neat, his broad shoulders clad in a form-fitting black suit, his crisp white shirt accentuating his golden tan. His tie is always black, always plain.

He wears the same clothing combination every day, and I want to peel the monochromatic fabric away from his kicking hot physique and lick him from his head to his toes. This impulsive act, while certain to be sexually satisfying, violates the rules of my game. He must touch me first. I keep my hands to myself and stride into the elevator, my hips swaying and my head held defiantly high.

Nate glances upward, our gazes lock and hold, and I forget to breathe, to think, to move. His eyes are the palest, coldest gray, a frigid blast of icy wind on a hot Californian day, and I want him as I’ve never wanted anyone else, my need for him carnal and raw.

He slides his phone into his jacket pocket and the silver Rolex on his wrist gleams. This symbol of wealth and the establishment, a physical reminder of who Nate is, doesn’t squelch my lust. It perversely feeds my fantasies.

In my overactive imagination Nate doesn’t stay in his corner. He stalks toward me, hooks one of his arms around my waist, pulls my curves into his muscle, and—

“Miss Trent.” His crisp businesslike tone returns me to reality.

“Nate.” I mimic his curtness, breaking an unspoken company rule by addressing a top executive by his first name. I tap the button for the legal floor. This is the law-enforcing, super-quiet department I’ve been sentenced to. I don’t fit in there, but then, I’ve never fit in anywhere.

Except here. I belong in this elevator car. I belong with Nate. I claim the corner across from him and openly study the object of my obsession. “You spent another weekend alone, I see.” The lines around his mouth and eyes are deeply etched, attesting to his many months of celibacy. This pleases me. I don’t want Nate to touch any other woman. He’s my iceberg to melt.

He raises one of his eyebrows. “Have you added stalking to your long list of crimes?”
I roll my eyes. I was found guilty of three minor misdemeanors while I was a careless teenager and now I’ve been labeled a criminal for life. “Don’t flatter yourself. A blind woman can tell you’re not getting any.” I stretch the truth. His expression is as cold and as emotionless as it normally is.

Nate frowns, glances at his reflection in the mirrored walls, sweeps one of his hands over his perfect hair.

“What’s the matter?” I grin at him as I set my backpack on the floor by my feet. “Are all of the hookers in LA on strike?”

He returns his gaze to me and narrows his eyes. “You’re well informed.” Ice drips from his words, his coolness indicating I’ve scored a direct hit. Many people subjected to Nate’s subzero demeanor assume he’s a frigid, unfeeling bastard. I recognize it for what it is—a shield, as effective as my sarcasm and green hair.

“You bet I’m well informed.” It didn’t take me long to discover that every well-dressed, insanely beautiful woman appearing beside Nate in the newspaper’s society pages was a high-end escort. His hooker fetish doesn’t bother me. Nate is a faithful, serial-monogamous John, taking a long time to choose the right escort and then paying for her exclusive attentions.

“You’re not hideous.” I unbutton my formerly black blazer, the sole suit I own faded from having been hand washed every night. “Why do you pay for sex?”

“Everyone pays for sex in one way or another.” Nate visually tracks my movements as I shrug out of the garment, removing one more barrier between us. “Some muddle the price with talk of love and feelings. I prefer straightforward, honest negotiations.”

Cynthia Sax lives in a world where demons aren’t all bad, angels aren’t all good, and magic happens every single day. Although her heroes may not always say, “I love you”, they will do anything for the women they love. They live passionately. They fight fiercely. They love the same women forever.

Cynthia has loved the same wonderful man forever. Her supportive hubby offers himself up to the joys and pains of research, while they travel the world together, meeting fascinating people and finding inspiration in exotic places such as Istanbul, Bali, and Chicago.

Author Information

As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework. I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.

I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend. We live in northern New Jersey and try not to freeze too badly during the winter months.

I am in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and try to use all of these elements in my writing. I've been told I'm a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you'll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.

In my world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.

I'd love to hear from you!

Stacey knew she should be horribly offended. He’d propositioned her to have sex for the rest of the month and then go their separate ways. But the truth was, the second he’d started talking she’d become so hot inside she could barely breathe.

There was no way to go back in time and fix things between them. No way she would ever find out exactly why he’d left, if there was something she could have done to make him happier. She wasn’t exactly certain she wanted to. When she’d told him his leaving had prompted her to go make her own career, her own life, she’d meant it.

But today he offered passion. They’d been kids together. She’d given him his first kiss. For all intents and purposes, it might as well have been hers. A sloppy kiss-and-run at twelve years old shouldn’t get to count. They’d lost their virginity together, and all of her early sexual education had been found in his arms.

What would they be like now?

She sucked in her breath. “You’re a hard man to say no to.”

“You didn’t say yes.” He took her hands in his. “I need a yes. I can’t leave here with you upset again. I

won’t hurt you again. So, you have to tell me you understand what I’m offering and what I’m not, that you grasp completely I’m not going to be here in March.”

“I’m not a moron, thank you.” She stood up. “And I’m not the head-over-heels-in-love-with-you twenty-year-old with dreams of marriage and Sunday crawfish boils wrecking my brain. I have my own life here. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth disrupting it for you for an entire month of my life.”

She felt him when he moved behind her, his warmth filling her from the outside in. With a quick tug, he pulled her flush against his body. “I can promise you. It’ll be worth it.”
My Review:

Recieved a copy for an honest revew and I have to say that loved the story. It did take me a few pages to get into in. Howeve, was I was hooked I wanted toknow what Stacey would do. Would she stand up and scream her feelings  or would hse keep them buried.
The author did a great job in keeping you interested in the story
