BLURB:

Marlo Croft, canine behaviorist at the Dog Haven Sanctuary in Halo Peak, Washington, has her life neatly organized. The trauma of her past is well buried, her emotions tamped down, and rehabilitating and rehoming damaged and unwanted dogs gives her the focused, contained life that makes her feel secure.
The arrival of a new rescue dog, Justice, also brings the unwelcome distraction of a handsome stranger who is to shadow Marlo and Justice through the dog’s rehabilitation.
Suffering guilt over the death of his wife, New Zealander Adam Guildford’s short contract in the US to research dog fighting is what he hopes will pull him out of the limbo he has floundered in for the past four years. He arrives prepared to tackle the emotional and behavioral needs of the rescued dogs, but completely unprepared for the way his presence unnerves Marlo and awakens his own dormant feelings.
As they start to gain Justice’s trust, Marlo loosens her grip on her inner fears and the simmering attraction between her and Adam heats up. Adam works carefully to dismantle the emotional barricades Marlo erected, until one day he unwittingly delivers the horror from Marlo’s past straight to her doorstep, an action that tears the three of them apart.

Prologue

STANDING ON THE slick, damp rocks smoothed over by centuries of wind tossed waves, my heart stopped. Piper wore nothing but her swimsuit and the temperature was cool enough to make our noses blush pink. Hunger lingered in her eyes, making my own desire burn through me, the frigid air forgotten in the heat of a deep ache and longing pummeling me unexpectedly. I ran to her, embracing her thin frame and attempted to stifle the goose bumps flaring across her skin. We were on vacation on one of my favorite beaches of the Oregon coast. A place to forget the insanity of college life.
The alcove was a small private beach, free from any barrage of tourists. Leading her over the mess of rocks and sand to the blanket I had set out for our picnic, I carefully cradled her body as we slipped down onto it, our lips devouring each other’s until they felt downright bruised. Hers were bright pink, full and swollen from my assault as I explored them. Our skins had turned from frozen to searing, the wind all but forgotten except for toying with the ends of her long brown hair with unseen fingertips. It lay fanned out underneath us, a warm pillow for her head.
I’d never met anyone like Piper. She was the vision of my dream woman, the one I never knew I had wanted; always spontaneous and filled with a vibrant life force so few possess. I reached over and undid the ties to her bikini, raking my fingers down her sides, desperate to devour every last bit. She was soft and her curves supple against the hard rocks pressing on us. We didn’t care, we were lost to the world. We could’ve jumped up and rushed into the aged beach house a few yards away, where the fire burned warm and the bed creaky but comfy, yet even that was not a concern. All that mattered was kissing her, everywhere, everyplace in every way to make sure some sort of fiery warmth caressed the cold away and our wanting satisfied.
Shivering from my touch, she opened her hooded eyes, glazed with lust and most definitely matching my own. Her fingers curled around my blonde hair, as she whispered my name “Sasha…” before her voice ebbed away and my lips found hers once more. It was there that I gave away my heart, before all the wrong snaked into our lives back home. Before all the flighty decisions and selfishness had sent us spiraling into oblivion, leaving us broken. I wanted it back, all the ‘before’ and ‘once upon a time’s’. I still did, now more than ever before. Salvaging our hearts made me determined, it was the only way either of us could really live again.

 Excerpt

She paused, as if slightly stunned.  She had no reason to believe Candice’s situation would change.  “You delude yourself with unrealistic demands.  Freeing our friend has turned out to be far more difficult than expected.  First and foremost, I can’t get close to her.  She is oblivious to me.  I tried to capture her attention but my task could not be accomplished.  The transfer of thoughts between minds failed.”
Frankie fought to keep her voice calm.  “I felt the energy build up within myself.  I composed a short and direct thought.  I sent out a strong flow of thought energy from my third eye.  The surge quickly evaporated.  I couldn’t control the message, the energy scattered.”
Sandra sank back into the couch cushion and exhaled.  “Well, you might have been more successful had you been closer.  If the place was really busy their thought energy would cancel out yours.  Plus, I’m sure she couldn’t receive your thought message, the cord has been severed.  She’d not tuned in.  Her deep drug addiction fuels her.  We need to cast a spell so she will come to you.”

Book Spotlight: Night Promises by Tonya Callihan

Author: Tonya Renee Callihan

Title:  Night Promises

Publisher: Secret Cravings

Excerpt:

Connor knew she was coming, he could smell her before she opened the door. He was sitting on the couch, legs stretched out, arms spread across the back of the couch.
Kelly caught her breath as she stepped into the room. His eyes were back to light brown; she had never seen them darker than they had been just a moment ago. Did that mean he was hungry for her blood? Did he want sex? One would think that working in this environment she would know. But truth be told, she had never been alone with or this close to a male vampire before.
“Sit down Kelly.” He looked amused. “I’m not going to do anything you don’t want me to do.” That was the safest line he could use.
“Okay.” Kelly sat beside him on the couch and slipped her sandals off. Being on her feet all night, she appreciated the break. “You said we had to talk about my sister.”
“I know what you’re up to.” He wanted to touch her but restrained himself for now.
Kelly looked at him, “You can read minds then?”
“No, thankfully.”
“Then how do you know what I am up to?”
“Micah can read minds. He was here earlier tonight, heard what you were planning to do, and informed me.”
“Why would he inform you?”
He was amazed she wasn’t upset about Micah interrupting her thoughts but wanted to know why Connor needed this info.
“It came up,” he shrugged. “You are stepping into some very dangerous territory. You could get yourself killed.”
“I know that!” she exclaimed, crossing her arms. “But I owe Tammy. She never would have known that vamps existed if it weren’t for me.” Kelly stood and began to pace the small room. “I got my sister killed. Don’t you understand?” She turned to him. “She would still be alive and working if it weren’t for me, Connor.”
He stood. “You cannot blame yourself.” He again resisted the urge to touch her. “It could have happened if she knew about us and it could have happened if she didn’t know,” he tried to assure her.
“I have a strong feeling that a vampire I know, one who comes to my club, is responsible for this. Besides, I don’t need you to babysit me.” She turned for the door, but he beat her to it. “Get out of my way,” she said between gritted teeth.
“No!” This time he did touch her cheek, slightly. “You smell like sunshine.” He leaned closer to her.
“Give me a break. I have guys trying those lines on me every night.” She tried to push him away, but he only grinned.
“I’m stronger than you, Kelly. You can fight me all you want, but I’m not moving.” This time, he placed his thumb on her pulse. “It’s racing,” he whispered. “I can hear it racing every time I’m near you.”
“What’s it like?” Kelly asked, “Being a vampire?”
“Not much difference really, but I can hear sounds miles away, see past the stars, fly above the clouds, and taste every flavor in ones blood, kiss, and body.” He gave her body a glance, down then up again.
“I’ve never been with a vampire,” she blurted.
“Never?” he asked, half-shocked and half-relieved.
“No, never even kissed one.” she laughed at herself.
“Can I ask why?” Connor rubbed his hand down her neck and across the swell of her breasts. He asked the question, but he felt he already knew the answer. He needed to hear her say it.
“Because I only want you,” she confessed taking a step back. “I’m sorry, that was really forward.” She crossed her arms again.
“That’s okay.” He stepped closer to her. “Being forward is a good thing, especially when I don’t have Micah here telling me what you are thinking.”
“Oh,” she laughed a little shakily. “I should probably get back out there.”
“Don’t.” He placed a hand on her stomach to stop her. Connor knew better; he knew he should just let her go. She was better off if he didn’t take from her. Being his mate and being a full moon he could lose control and turn her against her will. He couldn’t do that, not to her.
“Does it hurt?”
“No, it’s very pleasurable for both.” He reached over and dimmed the lights. “Let me pleasure you, Kelly,” he whispered before placing his lips over hers and sucking her bottom lip into his mouth. Then his tongue was dancing with hers. Connor cupped her right breast and felt her nipple come to life under his thumb.
“Oh, wow.” Kelly murmured against his mouth. “This is just the start,” he promised, pushing her back against the wall. “Just relax,” he soothed, giving her neck an open-mouthed kiss. “I would never do anything to harm you,” he promised.
“I trust you.” She gripped his hips and forced her body to relax when she spotted his fangs.
Connor felt her tense, “I’m going to take you places you’ve never been, Kelly.” He pushed the top of her dress down to find her completely naked and greedily sucked her nipple into his mouth.
Kelly brought her hands up to grip his head and held him closer to her body, letting a moan escape.
After giving the same attention to her other nipple, Connor began kissing his way up her chest to her neck, where her pulse wildly raced, and he quickly pierced her skin. Kelly called out, shouting his name as her body began to shake, the beginning of a wonderful orgasm. She felt the blood flowing out of her body and into his mouth. The thought of him tasting her, every flavor, caused her toes to curl. She moaned and grasped him tighter as her powerful orgasm overwhelmed her body.
“Connor,” she mumbled, “weak,” moaning in pleasure and a bit of pain.

Author Spotlight: Jianne Carlo -VengeanceHammer

Welcome Jianne Carlo who is here today to discuss her book Vengeance Hammer

Can a Viking forgive the woman who cheated him of his Vengeance?

Excerpt, Vengeance Hammer, Viking Vengeance Book Three:

“What think you now, wife?”
Dráddør loved the way Xára wrinkled her nose and peeked up from under at him, her beautiful eyes a pool of turquoise and amber in the morning sunlight. “Methinks you are a wicked man.”
The smile accompanying her playful tone delighted him. He flexed his half-erect cock inside her and she opened her eyes wide. “And methinks, you enjoy my wickedness. Tell me true, Xára mine—did you not find pleasure in our swiving?”
She fixed him with an exasperated stare, nostrils flaring ever so slightly. “You know I did.”
“What concerns you, mit sváss?” He studied the delectable curve of her brows and couldn’t resist tucking a wayward damp tendril back into place. His pecker went flaccid and he reluctantly withdrew from her heat.
Her nose grazed his chin when she bent her head. “I cannot help but wonder if bedsport needs be confessed.”
“Confessed?” A vague memory of the Christian need to spill their wrongdoings to Monks and such mushroomed. “Tell me, what must you confess to your priest?”
“My sins, a’course. If I have broken one of the Ten Commandments. I have thought and thought on bedsport. We do not lie, covet another, kill another, or bear false witness.” She didn’t appear happy about her conclusion.
“If we break none of your God’s rules, what troubles you?” ’Twould take some time to grow accustomed to her Christianity, but Dráddør had no doubt he would. After all, his older brothers had with their wives.
“It feels like a delicious sin, all that we do. Yet I am loath to confess what we do to Monk Herbert. Think you Skatha and Nyssa confess such?” Her voice wavered on the question.
Dráddør didn’t hesitate. “Nay. Does the church not say what happens ’tween husband and wife is sacred?”
She cupped her chin and pursed her mouth before answering, “Aye. You have the right of it. I needs not confess our bedsport to Monk Herbert. ’Tis a relief, I vow. He will stay to become our priest?”
Stifling a groan, Dráddør searched for a way to send the holy man away less Xára ask him to assume the duty. “Mayhap. We will speak of it when I return.”
At once her relaxed posture changed, she moved onto her side, clasped a bed cushion to her breasts, and looked at the windows. “The sun is high in the sky. We make haste?”
Dráddør glanced at the cloudless sky revealed by the open shutters. His mind turned to the coming journey and the numerous tasks to be done. “Aye. We will need the noon tide if we are to catch up to Niketas.”
“Who is this man?”
Dropping a quick kiss on her nose, he eyed the floor and his scattered garments. “I have ne’er shed my clothes and weapons in such haste. You fracture my warrior discipline, woman. Wazir Niketas is an Arab trader who tried to take Skatha and Hjørdis some time ago. He has been a thorn in our side for many seasons. I do not have the time for detailed explanations, Xára. I must meet with Haakon. ’Twill be of great help if you will pack a few of the tunics in my chest.”
“I will see to it and get the food stores ready for you.” She scrambled off the other side of the bed. “May I take the time to see Jennie first? She will be overjoyed to learn that I can speak again.”
“’Tis more than enough time.” Dráddør had automatically dressed by the time Xára had retrieved a new chemise and donned it and her gown. He kissed her forehead. “I will meet you in the hall.”

I hope you enjoyed this little preview of Vengeance Hammer.
